I'm a Kentucky based photojournalist. I enjoy travel, storytelling, and copious amounts of chocolate.
This is a place to keep track of what I'm working on and what I'm inspired by.

After a lot of time and effort, here is the short documentary I have been working on all semester. Enjoy.
We like to celebrate the holidays together.

EOY happened last night. All the illustrious new alumni cut loose in the rain. People leapt from the rooftop, danced, sang, and flung mud.
All in all, I’d have to say that End of Year was a smashing success.
A fresh look at immigration to America from my good pal and classmate, timharris. Definitely worth watching!

I’m soaking in as much of my ol’ Kentucky home as possible before leaving for NYC.
Right now, that means time well spent with friends and family.
On April 23, my sister gave birth to a handsome (almost) healthy baby boy. He spent a few days in the hospital but they’re home now and he is doing well. I will visit with them again soon and take some happier photos.
This Sunday, my boyfriend Brian and I spent a lazy afternoon on the river with some of my closest friends.
Most of my time over the past several weeks has been spent with the family I’m documenting for my senior projects class at WKU. The great majority of this shooting has been video but from time to time, I’ll snap a few photos.
Each time I visited their home or sat down to edit, I learned a new lesson from Andrew and his mother, Regina.
On Wednesday afternoon the first chapter of their story will be complete.
I hope I’ll be able to pass along some of their wisdom.

The trees on campus are just big ol’ trunked snowballs of tiny white flowers. I picked up my cap and gown for graduation this afternoon. It’s weird to be nearly finished with undergrad. It went by fast. I’ll miss this immaculately landscaped hill!

Came across this photo while organizing my archives. I remember liking it after shooting it in September of 2010.
When I got out of my car to ask if I could take photos of the group on their porch, the little girl held up a dead butterfly to me. She said she was trying to “help it get better.” I did that once when I was little… kept a dead butterfly on a saucer of sugar water for weeks. I liked her mismatched shoes. She was sweet.
I’ve been caught up in a video project for the past several weeks. And preparing for life after graduation. I visited New York, spent some time with friends, and shot oh so many gigs of of video which, strangely, has reminded me of how much I love shooting stills.
The photo of the boy with the scrabble letters up there… that’s Drew. He drew those letters while we were playing. Made us both laugh a bunch. He’s the subject of this project I’m working on and he’s pretty great. I’ll post the video in a few weeks after it’s finished.
Last week, filmmaker Drea Cooper spoke to our advanced photojournalism class on Skype. The work that he and Zackary Canepari have done in their California is a Place series is pretty amazing. They find the most fresh, visual ways to tell news stories.
At the end of the talk Cooper left us with some words of wisdom, saying that we just need to get out there and shoot.
In the search for film inspiration, I came across the work of Nicolas Calzada. I especially enjoyed the section of his director’s reel that begins at 1:20 called “Waking Olguita.” Beautiful visuals and such a natural feel.
Hang on tight while we grab the next page
